Peaks and Troughs

A lot has went by since the last time I was here. I remember wanting to start out 2012 with a brand new perspective in life and just be happy with whatever was blessed my way. Five months later, I have having the worst moment of my life, struggling to handle everything with care before all of it starts tumbling down. Sometimes you wished life has a warning signal, to inform you of any impending danger that you will be facing so that you can be prepared for anything.

But that's what life is - it throws you into the most dangerous situations, and you fight your way through life and come out a stronger person. That is what I'll be. A fighter. A stronger person. Me.

My conversation with Steven Lim

So I was walking to the bus interchange today as usual on my way home and I got stopped by Steven Lim. I'm sure all of you knows him cause he is "famous and owns a BMW" (as told by him). Having seen him a few times before at different places scouting for models, he has not once approached me. However, today he decided to. Being curious, I decided to stay on and hear what he has to say.

There were many things he talked about during the whole conversation, but of course his main intention was so that I could join his modelling agency, if you could call that one, at a flat fee of $100. That simple. Everything aft er that will be settled by him. What I find interesting was what was mentioned in between the introduction of his modelling agency and the request of upfront payment of $100:

1. He's rich and drives a BMW.
He probably said this like 4-5 times? I don't know what he is trying to imply - that he can afford luxury stuff? Or that his popularity brought him there? Either way, whenever he said that, I swear my eyes casually glazed over. My uncle drives a BMW too. Do I look like I care? Doubt so. Then he went on showing me some letters from Mediacorp and payslips that apparently his trophies have gotten.

2. He said I could act.
His next question was whether I could act, and being the natural Singaporean I said no. From there, he said that when I said no I am already acting. I don't know if he is trying to play some reversal games on me or what but it sure as hell was not working. I know I could act, cause throughout the whole conversation I acted like I really am interested in what he was about to say, and that sure worked.

3. He said I have a nice smile.
This, in my honest opinion, is nothing surprising. I am not being thick-skinned here, but there are some things that you know you are certain of. It's like if you have a sharp nose, and people say that, you are not going to act as though you are so humble you can't take compliments. Everyone has their own set of characteristics that are beautiful, so does mine :)

4. He likened my dress sense to a style of a "megastar"
I was wearing my colourful plaid shirt (which might have been the reason why that caught his attention) and so he said that my audacity to wear bright and colourful colours makes me a "megastar". Megastar? Seriously? What does that even mean?

5. I looked like Xavier Ong.
I had no idea who that was until I went to Google him and voila!

Do I look like him? I doubt so. I am definitely not saying that he's not good looking or I am not good looking. I just don't see how Steven Lim can derive that both this guy in the pic and me look similar. That's all.

6. He said I had a good complexion
This made me raged. I swear! I pride myself in ensuring that my skin does not break out that easily and I know my skin has not been at its best lately but to say I have a good complexion?!?! It's like telling a blind man that he's not blind! Ugh. I love to be praised, trust me, but not this way. It's either he's delusional or he just wants my money.

So after his whole talk, he asked if I had 100bucks in hand or in my bank account. I told him I did not bring much money out when I go to school, so he finally gave up and said to visit his website where his contact number can be found. Will I call him? No. Did he wasted my time? Definitely. To think I would throw in 100bucks and let you make me a "megastar"? You must be shitting balls!

Highlights of 2011

As usual, time passes us by unknowingly and we're at the tail end of 2011! I must say 2011 has brought me lots of happiness and it helped redefine the meaning of life to me. Of course there were the occasional inevitable days where I just feel down but those do not outweigh the amount of love I've gotten from my loved one, my dearest friends and my family. It definitely was not smooth-sailing but it sure was worth the ride.

Some moments in my life that I think are more prominent in year 2011 was my 6 months attachment at Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa, which wasn't my choice but even then, I loved working there. Also, I failed my driver's license test, which made me cried like some baby. Somehow all the bad events that happened to me are rejection-based. Talk about tough love.

Of course, I didn't forget how happy I was when love brought me to the Zoo and Night Safari on my birthday, the amount of well wishes I received, the gifts that were showered on me, the surprise, the chalet with love, the 3 days 2 nights cruise on Royal Caribbean and the mere fact that I still have two of the bestest friends in the world.

As of now, I am looking forward to pass my next driving test and Canada trip on 17th! Till then, I should be posting more often! :)

Maybe it's time..

(It's Not) Goodbye.

It's the end of the second semester and I've just realized I've not written a post for quite a while.

This semester, like any other, passed real quickly. And with every semester you make a few really close friends (and of course enemies but let's just keep this post emotional). So this is me, sharing with you those who might have made an impact in my life during this course of 4 months.

1. (Susan) Ang Wan Ting, KCarol Liew, Garell Khoong, Soh Xi Wen, Amanda Lee, Soong Wen Lin, Donald Tan

Wan Ting and I started out thinking we'll never make any real friends during the start of the semester, but like all human beings, we have our wrong moments. Knowing KC, Garell and the rest was like putting the missing puzzle pieces together. We made jokes at teachers whom made our day like hell, we webcam-ed even though we were in the same classroom, we gossiped throughout every second in class, we had our own groupie (named B.M.W.S. which meant Bitch, Mother Fucker, Whore and Slut.) Thank you, for making this 4 months interesting for me. :)

And with new friends comes old "besties".

2. Cheryl Tan, Sajuto Tio, Samuel Ho, Gillian Chua, Amin

These were the people who were there right from the start. The people who are like your shadow, always there but not saying a word. We went through a lot together as a class before and till today we still have each other's back. I love every single one of you, just for being there whenever I needed you and being my big brothers and sisters. :)

Attachment's here and we will be separated for 6 months but I'm sure we will still keep in touch. Till then, it's not goodbye. ;)

How do you describe sadness?

Sadness, like so many other things, are indescribable, especially to someone who has no emotional reference point. In order to describe sadness you must be able to feel it. Even then, you may not be able to describe it verbally, but feel it enough to understand it. To describe sadness to someone, I would have to hurt the person. I will break what is most precious to them and destroy everything that they have ever loved. This is how I would describe sadness to someone.

Felt a sudden urge to write this post. Not because I am experiencing sadness but because I think it is really hurting to see other people sad. Somehow I always feel the hurt whenever I see someone sad even though it may have nothing to do with me. It may be the look in their eyes or the way they frown. Sometimes what's lost is lost forever. Whatever positive thoughts we hope for is just wishful thinking. NOT trying to be a emo nemo but that is the fact.

Happy 2011!

2011 is here! A part of me was so looking forward to the new year and starting anew like the problems in 2010 were not brought over. But I know I still have to face them despite knowing it'll hurt. I just can't imagine the disappointment from my parents when they find out St Regis. didn't want their son as an intern.

Enough of not getting my first placement. One of the things I cannot really stand is how people like to ramble on about how we're nearing death cause 2012's nearing or even around mid 2011. Shouldn't people just live their lives happily and not worry about something that someone said who probably ain't absolutely right? Some may say its dark humour but soon it'll affect your perspective on life too. Trust me, have too much of something and it'll become a habit.

Okay, so with new year comes new resolutions. I haven't really been the kind of person who sets goals and stuff so doing a resolution itself is an achievement. Well, in 2011 I hope to -
  1. Swim ONCE a week. Not because I wanna be fit and wear shirts that are 3 sizes smaller for my body but to keep myself healthy and to have a nice tan :)
  2. Start using a PLANNER. I need to start getting my life on track, starting with a pocket planner so that I do not have to cancel on people and stuff.
  3. $AVE. I realised I've been spending too much in 2010 to the extent that I have no spare cash for myself. I'm not saying I will completely not spend, but that will be when I am financially stable in terms of having a bank account that will not fluctuate.
  4. Stop being so BITCHY. Yeah yeah, I know. I'm working on it. Try being nice to people who messed with you first. Urgh.
  5. Get my DRIVING LICENSE. I'm taking my Basic Theory is a weeks' time and I'm hyped! Can't wait to drive around while I scoff at commuters on the public transport who would have to squeeze their boobs and asses to get on board.
  6. Read at least one BOOK every month. I need to start developing hobbies cause as of now, the only hobbies I have is gluing my eyes to the laptop screen. NOT GOOD.
  7. Learn a new SPORT. Yes, this links to point 6 where I just showed that I have no life at all. Tennis is on the top of my list. Bowling was good but I wanted something where I can be outdoors.
  8. Be more APPRECIATIVE of the people around me. I do not deny that I tend to take people for granted and I hate that about myself. People always say "Do onto others what you want others to do onto you." but I just ignore that probably because people do not really notice.
  9. To be more STUDIOUS. The little procrastinator in me has been the cause of my many worries during major tests or exams so hopefully in 2011 I will become a hardcore mugger. Maybe to the extent that I will drop from the social ladder and become a nerd. Yeah, that'll be great
  10. Stop being so PARANOID. If anyone is the greatest worrier it'll be me. I guess I am too focused about getting my life on the right track. It's time to tell myself to live and let live.
  11. Stop speaking/writing SINGLISH. I don't know why but it's just me. The most common one that I think I use would be "eh" which I think is not even Singlish(?)
That's all that I can think of at the palm of my hand now. I have always been an optimist so I know 2011 will be better. At least it started out good. :)

Here's to starting over.

It's almost the end of 2010! Tonnes of things have happened ever since my last post and I think it would be good to have them penned down in my most probably last entry for the 2010.

Somewhere between the last entry till now, I went for an internship interview at St. Regis Singapore. I still remember the joy when they called me while I was stuck in the middle of a super boring lesson. I was literally bursting for joy that I think everyone in the classroom thought I was going crazy but that did not stop me because the day I've been looking for was here and I've spent a commendable amount of my time researching on the hotel and studying about its heritage. Interview day came, I was on a cab feeling all nerve-wrecked and blessed. Somehow it just occurred to me that I am lucky to be where I am today and whatever happens, happens.

Everything went as planned and I remember walking out of the interview feeling relieved and happy. Then came the harsh reality - St. Regis has already called the 2 interns and I was not one of them. Somehow the feeling of loss overwhelmed me and needless to say, I was dejected.

Somehow to me, it wasn't the feeling of being rejected that I felt sad for. It's the feeling of doing your best and not seeing ANY results coming out of it. Same like how I tried out for Bowling IG in my first year and being told I didn't make the cut.

However, life is not always a bed of thorns. I have friends to thank who have shown their care and concern for me. I will get over it. It's just a matter of time. I have family who knows how to live a wonderful life. I have loved ones who never fail to make me smile even when I'm down or angry. Truth is, 2010 wasn't really a bad year. It was just a year for me to try. At least that's the first step before you can really succeed. :)

(Trying) to be a Concierge.

UT1 was over and I thought I can finally breathe again but UT2 is just around the corner even faster than I can shout "Hooray!" Call me kiasu or whatever but I just think there is a need for me to do well for the second test since the first one was kind of screwed up. I guess the real difficulty is that everything is so practical and there's research that I need to do on my own. ):

Tattoo update! Both Momo and Pops disagreed vehemently towards my idea of getting a tattoo. Actually, it was only Pops. I told him while he was making coffee and I was in the showers and I think he kind of overreacted although he did not really tell me why I can't get a tattoo. Momo got to know about the tattoo idea through Pops at dinner (as always) and she asked where I wanted to put the tattoo which got me excited as I thought there was a chance but after I told her I wanted one around my ankle she just disapprove in the gentlest way, like there was some dark reasons behind why she did not allow me to get a tattoo.

Other than that, school's just being a bitch. Everything's so clustered together, there's understanding test 2 and interviews and what-nots for internship and there's understanding test 3 and there's people you just can't work with. Somehow one of our class facilitators have managed to enforce a punishment for students who are coming late to class by asking them to sing which was a really bad idea considering the fact that I assume no one in class takes singing lessons and they are belting out songs from artistes that I really like such as Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga. So now I am most likely never going to listen to "Time for Miracles", "Bad Romance" and "Happy Birthday". Yes, the last one being the song that we sing a few times every year. NOW STOP BEING LATE!

"Mummy, can I get a tattoo?"

Okay, I have been thinking of getting a tattoo since forever. I don't know when I started obsessing over body art but I really think it is nice to have something that speaks of you or something that brings out your morale. That being said, I am not a big fan of a full body art which I doubt I will be up for considering I am in the Hospitality industry and I may come to regret it one day.

Now the difficult part is to convince my parents. This is one of the things that I cannot do behind their backs because if I am going to get the tattoo at a prominent area then I wouldn't want to walk around the house covering those areas all the time. I don't want to get a tattoo only to get busted and brought back to the tattoo parlour to have it removed.

Talking about prominent areas, I have looked through a lot of photos and I just love how the tattoos are at specific areas of the body that makes it so sexyyyy! Some photos to show you what I'm talking about:

Mummy, can I have a tattoo please?

Date to remember.

It's October the 25th people! :)

I feel that there are many things that are worth being happy for happening on this very day so I decided to make a blog post about it. Hahah, normally I don't do such things but there is always a first time, right?

Firstly, things that are close to the heart. No, I'm not attached. My closest friend, A, who is like a sister to me has just pass her driving! *claps claps* Now we have 2 drivers in P10 who can drive us around. :) Hopefully I pass mine in one try. The pressure is on!

Secondly, a big huge ass happy birthday to Katy Perry!!! I don't know if you guys know but I am a super huge fan of Katy Perry. FYI, Katy Perry is named the hottest woman alive by Maxim! So you can just imagine how hot she is. Also, she's recently married to Russell Brand! Other than that, I love her music and I love her personality and I hope she holds a concert in Singapore! Happy 26th Mrs Brand! :)

Thirdly, Taylor Swift's album, Speak Now, is released today. I am also a big fan of Taylor Swift's song because I feel that she is one of the most talented singer-songwriter I've ever come across. Her songs speak her life story and touched so many people lives. Remember the song "Love Story"? :)

Lastly, this date marks the celebration of the most important food (to me and maybe A and S)! Today is World Pasta Day! I am super in love with pasta especially affordable pasta from Pastamania! I have tried pastas from other restaurants too and I love them but sadly I don't remember their names. :P

Okay, so I guess that's about it. Somehow I just feel so happy knowing so many happy stuff are happening on the exact same day. Hope everyone had a good Monday too!

13 days! :)

Second Semester.

As all of you should know by now, school term has started and I, or rather everyone, is back to their daily routine again. As always, we were made to change classes every semester and this semester was no exception albeit the Pulau Ubin camp which was held to allow us to bond closer. Ironic.

After spending one week with my classmates, I would say they are fine. Most of them are mutual friends so I was able to adapt to the class quickly. Of course, I am really blessed to have classmates of previous semester to join me in this semester, especially Wan Ting Azah and Eda, whom I'm really grateful for! :) I must also say I am really lucky that I do not have anyone in my class whom I am on bad terms with. (Cheryl and Samuel, my heart goes out for you!) It's hasn't even been one week and bitches have emerged like a sore thumb. Shall not elaborate much here but the people of E56N of Year 2010 have done absolutely nothing wrong so don't even try messing with us.

Till then, I have my eyes set on you people. You know better.

Grandparents.

Being brought up since young by my grandparents, I always thought growing up in an environment like those of our grandparents were the best. They wake up and are not pressured by the hectic lifestyles of the masses that society has moulded people to become part of. I remember growing up and spending most of my days after school at my grandparents'.  A usual routine of my day at my grandparents' would be a 10 to 15 minute school bus ride to the road opposite my grandparents'. Sometimes before the bus reaches, I would take a peep to see who would be there to fetch me. Sometimes, it would be Granny and other days it would be Gramps. Once in a while when I'm lucky both of them will be there, waiting for me be it rain or shine. When we reached, I would then follow the usual routine of bath-homework-television. Sometimes if time permits I would sneak in some time for napping too. Occasionally I would be brought to the playground where other kids around my age mingled and my grandparents would talk to other grandparents-alike while they keep a look out for their grandchildren. When night time came, I would await the arrival of my family for dinner before heading back home. It's life like these that I yearn for even today.A decade passed and many things have happened. The day when Gramps passed was a day that will always seem like yesterday. I can still remember the look on Granny's face and how devastated everyone was. It was my first encounter with the harsh reality of death so it impacted me a lot in some way. Everything may seem fine for a minute but before I knew it someone whom I've been brought up by has left. And trust me, it was not easy dealing with death nor the heartbreak.Granny, on the other hand, has been my closest companion since. I always told people I'm closer to my granny than to my parents, which was normal for me since most of my childhood days were encrypted mostly with memories of my days spent at my grandparents'. I love the fact that Granny has always been strong. She is not the typical maiden nor the princess. If I had to describe her she would be tough, straight-forward, crude, funny, and everything in between. Today, she's making steamboat for my whole family. My family still goes over for dinner four times a week just like how we did a decade ago. Nothing's changed, and I'm happy things stayed this way. Somehow a part of me still feels that having dinner at my granny's still makes me the kid I was a decade ago: Carefree and playful.

Hope It Gives You Hell.

School has been boring boring boring! Been a few rough weeks in school. Managed to make a few classmates who are pretty funny but that's all. It has all been about grooming and what not! But I have kind of gotten used to it already so all's well now.

Grades wise, still working on it. I have really nice people as my facilitators and I am glad none are acting weird. The As need to be in this week!

Other than that, life's been pretty mundane! I have a few things that I need to buy! HTC Hero! New Sanuk's (or any other brands)! Ok gotta go!

Xoxo,
A.

Officially Missing You

Okay okay, I know I said I will post soon but just saw this awesome video! Was listening to Janice & Sonia singing Officially Missing You (Original song by Tamia) and I came across another one which was nice too:

If you haven't seen the one by J & S, it's here:
